Systems & Structure

Build Workshop 1: Systems and Structure for Personal Development

Systems & Structure

first draft

Introduction

Everyone seeks that one hack, that neat trick, that quick fix to overcome their inconsistency, manage their time, stop procrastinating, get more done, utilize their potential, and amaze us all.

But...

There is no quick fix, no real hack. You need to roll up your sleeves and build, brick by brick, the necessary structure that your personal development will hinge on, and the systems to implement daily in a sustainable manner those habits and processes.

Build the business of "You" patiently and diligently.

In the context of personal development...

Think about this: you want to own a home. A beautiful chateau in the countryside.
Do you, buy a bunch of building materials, any land, or some furniture, dump it all together and wave a magic wand and in a day or two, have your home?

You wouldn't do that (I hope). Why then would you think that a mumble jumble of practices lumped up together with no structure, direction, plan, or system is right for the incredible vision and institution that is you?

allor...

What is structure?

Structure is:

  • a map in hand

  • a clear sense of where you are

  • a clear sense of where you are going to

  • Identifying what's needed to get you there

  • Setting the foundation and anchor point

  • Implementing the 4 walls (or a million if be) to house the various arms and departments that makeup you, your talent implementation and your vision realisation.

What are systems?

  • Your workmen, daily drivers

  • The operations manager of your life

  • The moulds you can pour into daily to fabricate piece by piece your creations.

Its relevance to your personal development

Why is S and S important? What is its relevance?

To answer that, consider this:

What makes for a bad business? What's a sign a business will fail?

No one can account for anything. Nothing is measured. Nothing is truly known.
Only assumed. Barely winging it and hoping for the best.

A lot of people exist in that way, maybe unintentionally, but they live everything per se to chance.

They cannot account for how time is spent and what value is derived, how much they have or have not invested in themselves.

You need structure and systems in place in your life so you can:

  • Build

  • Not feel lost and overwhelmed

  • Be well informed

  • Know for sure how well you're doing

  • Identify areas for improvement

  • Create value for yourself and others

S and S Framework

A sustainable and well-defined model for living and managing oneself.
A framework where every item is of equal priority and impact. A reference point for you to create yours.

Value Definition and Awareness

Define the things that are worth your time and while.
Write them down and be clearly aware.

Resource Management: Self, Time, Relationship & Finance

Self Management
Your body houses your mind. Your mind has the ideas. Your body implements the ideas. Your body and mind are drivers that need to be taken care of, trained, and properly managed.

Measurable, Simple and Flexible

An S and S framework must be simple by design.
Do not spend a lot of time obsessing and complicating your life structure. The only trick I will give you here is to keep it simple.

At the foundation of every complex matter is a simple equation. Create your simple equation.

It should also be measurable. Leave nothing to chance. Record, measure, applaud and improve.

A good S and S should also be flexible. This allows it to improve as you learn more and grow.

Active: Present, accountable, consistent and dogged

Be present.

The structure you have built, you have to live in it.
Do the work; there is no other way, no workaround. Do the work

Accountability:

S and S Watchword

Output.Learn.Rest.Output.Learn.Rest

In Conclusion

It is a marathon, not a sprint.
